Report: Cowboys Settling in on DB Ramsey

The sexy splash pick the Dallas Cowboys could pull off with their No. 4 overall selection in April's NFL Draft would be a quarterback to groom to replace Tony Romo, and they've been heavily tied to North Dakota State's Carson Wentz, who shined at the Senior Bowl a couple of a weeks ago.

But one report says the Cowboys are thinking defense, and in particular Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey, like last year's first-round selection Byron Jones, will be a freak at the NFL Combine, and like Jones has played both safety and cornerback at the college level. Ramsey is arguably the top defensive player in the draft and is easily the best defensive back.

Of course, we know what happened last time the Cowboys took a cornerback with a top-10 pick, and that's Morris Claiborne. They don't want that again, but according to at least one report from longtime draft analyst Tony Pauline, the Cowboys have pegged Ramsey as the top player on their draft board.

The 6-1, 202-pound Ramsey has been compared to Richard Sherman by some draft analysts and called overrated by others, but one thing can't be debated — he's a freak athlete with a really special skill set for his size.

In his three years with the Seminoles, Ramsey had 180 tackles, 23 pass breakups, and three interceptions while starting in 41 consecutive games at both cornerback and safety.
