The Dallas Cowboys aren’t looking to cut ties with Rolando McClain after it was announced last Thursday that he’d be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Mike Fisher of 105.3-FM The Fan Tweeted Monday morning that no such move was in the Cowboys’ plans, and really, the news doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has praised McClain highly and regularly since he came out of retirement last year to join the Cowboys, even saying before McClain was re-signed this offseason, that his ideal linebacking corps. would feature McClain at middle linebacker and Sean Lee on the weak side.
In his return to football last year, McClain recorded 81 tackles, a sack and 2 interceptions in 13 games. He agreed to a 1-year deal worth $3 million on April 1 to return to the Cowboys, this after the New England Patriots showed some serious interest.
Now, McClain is set to make his season debut in Week 5, against those Patriots.
