Reason Why Hamels Wore Bandage During All-Star Game

You’re probably wondering why Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels was wearing a bandage on his chin during his one inning of work in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game.

Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Hamels needed eight stitches after he tripped coming out of the bathroom in his hotel room at 5 a.m.

So Hamels may have wrapped up the contest for weirdest/funniest injury of the week on a Tuesday.

It didn’t affect him during the game. Hamels pitching a scoreless third inning in his hometown of San Diego. He gave up a couple of hits, but struck out Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant on a nasty change-up.

Hamels and Bryant are expected to face off again Sunday when the Rangers visit Chicago for a three-game series at Wrigley Field. The Rangers lefty is 9-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 18 starts this season.
