The Ernesto Frieri experiment in Texas is officially over. Good news is they were able to make some money off it.

The total sum in return - $1.

The Rangers traded the reliever to the Seattle Mariners for “cash considerations” on Tuesday, which turns out to reportedly be a crisp one dollar bill. Frieri was toting the rubber down in Triple-A Round Rock and will now join the Mariners Triple-A team in Tacoma. It’s a move that could help out the Mariners depleted bullpen as they try to make a run at the A.L. wild card spot. It’s also a move that will cost the Mariners very little.

Texas was thinking the same thing when they signed the former Angels closer in June. The 32-year old jumped on the radar pitching for Colombia during the World Baseball Classic. He latched on with the New York Yankees on a minors pact before moving on to Texas.

It didn’t quite work out. Frieri was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in six relief appearances that during his time with Texas. He allowed four runs on six hits with six walks in a total of seven innings of work. The Rangers designated him for assignment last month.

He didn’t pitch that bad in Round Rock, going 0-1 but had a 1.42 ERA in just over six innings pitched.

Frieri is 11-14 with a 3.59 ERA and 73 saves in 304 career relief appearances. However, being sold to a division rival for a dollar probably doesn’t help the confidence level.

On the bright side, the Rangers just picked up an extra dollar to possibly convince Yu Darvish to return to Arlington.
