Rangers Sticking With Third Base For Gallo

When the Texas Rangers kick off spring training next week with pitchers and catchers reporting to Surprise and then the rest of the team joining them the following week, Joey Gallo will have a familiar spot to get his work in.

It's not that the Rangers have ruled out an eventual position change for Gallo, the Rangers' top-notch slugging prospect who's universally ranked as a top-10 prospect in the game, but it's not coming this spring.

Gallo will work primarily at third base this spring, which is his primary position but oddly enough not his most experienced position at the big-league level. In his short stint last year when Adrian Beltre hit the disabled list, Gallo ended up starting more games in left field than at third base.

As the Dallas Morning News reported, the Rangers might re-think that strategy if and when Adrian Beltre signs an extension to ensure that he finishes his career as a Ranger, but until that happens, it's the hot corner for Gallo, who could also most likely become an outfielder or first baseman down the road.

The ideal plan for Gallo will be that he plays the majority of, if not the entire, season at the Triple-A level to work on his plate approach and work on cutting down his strikeouts. But it'd be nice to get Gallo work at as many positions as possible to know they have an option if there are any key injuries.
