Rangers Shifting Pimentel Out of Bullpen

Stolmy Pimentel had familiarity on his side in his brief stint with the Texas Rangers, seeing as how he'd previously pitched in the Pirates' bullpen when Rangers skipper Jeff Banister was the Pirates' bench coach.

But Pimentel was a casualty of Banister's re-working of the Rangers bullpen and designated for assignment a couple of weeks ago. He ended up clearing waivers and accepting an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. Now in his new locale, Pimentel will be shifting to the starting rotation, according to the Dallas Morning News, where he spent most of his career until last season when he came up with Pittsburgh.

In Pimentel's minor league career, he's made 159 appearances dating back to his debut in 2007, and 150 of those were as a starting pitcher with a career ERA as a minor leaguer of 4.10 from low-A all the way up to Triple-A in Pittsburgh's and Boston's organizations.

His best season at a high level came in 2013 when he split time between Double-A and Triple-A and had a combined ERA of 3.35 in 27 starts.

Pimentel got off to a decent start with the Rangers this year, but things quickly took a turn for the worse and he when he was DFAed, his ERA sat at 3.97 in 11 1/3 innings.
