For the Rangers to win these days it requires strange occurrences. A full moon, perhaps. Maybe a black cat or some voodoo or just some good ol’ quirky baseball.
Texas mixed in some decent play with a little luck last night to beat the Yankees and improve to 3-14 in July.
Pitcher Miles Mikolas made the victory possible, earning his first Major League victory. He pitched into the 7th inning and got Derek Jeter to bounce into a key double-play to snuff a Yankees’ rally. Texas starters have now pitched past the 6th only twice in the past 18 games.
The Rangers took the lead for good with three consecutive two-out hits, including one by Shin-Soo Choo, who broke out of an 0-for-22 slump.
And the Yankees obviously helped out, committing a whopping five errors – three by pitcher Shane Greene and one each via bad throws by Jeter and Brian Roberts.
The Rangers will take a win any way they can get it these days. Just doesn’t seem like a formula they can count on to repeat night after night.
