After routing the A's with a 14-run outburst in Monday night's series opener in Oakland, the Texas Rangers had a chance to win the pivotal series before Wednesday's finale. They didn't do that, losing on Tuesday night, but it was definitely no fault of the Rangers' offense.
Texas' up-and-down lineup seems to be on the upswing right now, as they scored six runs on Tuesday night to bring their two-game total to 20 runs. In a park that is notoriously hard to hit home runs in at night, due to the famed "marine layer," the Rangers have slugged five home runs in those two games, including two from Donnie Murphy and one on Tuesday night from 20-year-old second baseman Rougned Odor.
With the Rangers' pitching woes and their current makeshift rotation, the Rangers are going to have to rely on their offense to win games for the remainder of the season.
It seems that's a pretty big pipe dream given the team's struggles throughout much of the season at the plate, but maybe they're figuring something out? Or maybe it's just another mirage?
