The Texas Rangers made a huge splash in 2012 when they posted a record dollar amount (more than $50 million) for the exclusive negotiating rights with Japanese star pitcher Yu Darvish.
Then, a couple of years ago, they were interested in Masahiro Tanaka, but lost out on the bidding process in the posting. He ended up signing with the New York Yankees.
Now, there's another Japanese pitcher hitting the open market in the form of Kenta Maeda, a 27-year-old who posted a 2.39 ERA over an eight-year career in Japan. According to The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant, Maeda doesn't interest the Rangers, at least nothing like Darvish or Tanaka did, and they won't be players in the posting process.
It likely wouldn't matter, as Maeda's friends have said he'd prefer to play on the West Coast, and the Giants, Dodgers and Mariners are all expected to be in on the bidding.
