Rangers Interview Red Sox Bench Coach

Even though interim manager Tim Bogar seems to be the favorite to land the Texas Rangers' open managerial gig this offseason, the Rangers are doing their due diligence in interviewing plenty of candidates.

On Tuesday, the Rangers conducted their first interview with an external candidate after they had previously interviewed pitching coach Mike Maddux and Triple-A Round Rock manager Steve Buechele.

The subject was Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo, who has no prior big-league managing experience but has been a job candidate in recent years, including with the Chicago Cubs last year. He has spent nine seasons as a minor-league manager with the Red Sox's organization and the Cleveland Indians' organization.

Bogar, of course, was a Red Sox's coach before coming to Texas this season to serve as Ron Washington's bench coach and took over for Washington as skipper after the club's all-time wins leader as manager resigned abruptly on Sept. 5 due to marital problems and infidelity.
