Rangers Have List of Hot-Stove Free Agents to Warm Up To

It's still a couple weeks before the Winter Meetings in Nashville (Dec. 6) and the Rangers still need some help.

In the bullpen. At catcher. Maybe in left field.

Before the hot stove really heats up, a look at baseball’s best available free agent by position:

Starting pitcher: David Price, Blue Jays. Rangers' outlook: Too expensive for a guy with a pathetic post-season pedigree.

Relief catcher: Tyler Clippard, Mets. Rangers' outlook: Will look at closely.

Catcher: Alex Avila, Tigers. Rangers' outlook: Not an elite defender, but still an upgrade over the spare parts that have manned the position since Pudge Rodriguez left.

1st Base: Chris Davis, Orioles. Rangers' outlook: Thanks to Mitch Moreland, no thanks.

2nd Base: Daniel Murphy, Mets. Rangers' outlook: Thanks to Rougned Odor and Jurickson Profar, no thanks.

Shortstop: Ian Desmond, Nationals. Rangers' outlook: Very unlikely.

3rd Base: David Freese, Angels. Rangers' outlook: Adrian Beltre with plenty of gas left in tank.

Outfielder: Yeonis Cespedes, Mets. Rangers' outlook: Way too pricey.
