Rangers Get Another Low-Risk Outfielder

Drew Stubbs has had a decent big-league career, but the University of Texas product fell on hard times this year in Colorado and was designated for assignment.

On Monday, the Rangers inked Stubbs to a minor-league deal to provide even more depth to an outfield that is dealing with lingering injuries to Josh Hamilton and Leonys Martin, the latter of whom is most likely finished as a Ranger.

Stubbs has a triple slash of .245/.319/.397 over his seven big-league seasons and hit .216 this year in his first season with Colorado. He was quite good for a couple of years with the Reds and was actually part of the Shin-Soo Choo deal that sent Choo from the Indians to the Reds prior to the 2013 season.

The move obviously doesn't involve much risk for the Rangers, who get a possible right-handed bench bat for the postseason along with a backup center fielder.
