We've been throwing the name around for a few years now and all wondering aloud, "Man, how awesome would it be if the Rangers could trade for, or even sign Giancarlo Stanton?"

Well, now that's almost certainly not happening after the Miami Marlins locked up their star slugger to a lonnnnng-term deal worth a ton of money, reportedly giving him a 13-year contract for $325 million with the ability to opt out after six years when he's still 31 years old. It's the largest deal in North American sports history.

That contract makes him basically impossible to trade, even though he is one of the game's great, young players, and they could possibly sign him at 31 if he opts out, but at what price then?

Despite missing the final couple of weeks of the season after a gruesome hit-by-pitch in the face, Stanton still managed to lead the National League with 37 home runs while also leading in total bases and slugging percentage (.555).

So keep dreaming Rangers fans, but the chances of his wearing a Rangers uniform are pretty much dead now.
