Rangers Call Up Blanks

In a turn of unfortunate events for the Texas Rangers — I know, who could believe such a thing would happen with this team — first baseman/DH Mitch Moreland is undergoing a minor elbow procedure on Wednesday and will likely miss three weeks.

That means Kyle Blanks, power-hitter extraordinaire, will make his Rangers debut at some point very soon, possibly Wednesday night against Seattle.

Blanks was called up from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Moreland on the 25-man roster, and he's coming off a pretty nice stretch of games in Triple-A hoping to carry that momentum over to the bigs. Blanks, who has some prodigious power but not much else, was just named the Pacific Coast League player of the week for Round Rock.

On the season, Blanks is hitting .327 with three homers in 52 at-bats. In his big-league career, Blanks has 30 homers and 105 RBIs in 260 games over six seasons.
