Randy Gregory Keeping Rookie Year Goals to Himself

Gregory was selected by the Cowboys with the 60th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Nebraska

Before last season, then-rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence declared his goal was to post double-digit sacks.

Lawrence then fractured his right foot in training camp, spent the first eight games of his rookie season on injured reserve and then struggled to make an impact in limited time down the stretch. He recorded two sacks in the playoffs, but never did get to the quarterback in the regular season, and Lawrence said this offseason that he wouldn’t be vocalizing his goals from here on.

Whether rookie Randy Gregory had Lawrence’s cautionary tale in mind when he spoke to reporters about his goals this week, we don’t know. But it sounded like he might.

"I like to keep those to myself,'' Gregory said of his goals, per the Dallas Morning News. "You start throwing numbers out there, I'm really not that guy. Some people may take it as being overly confident or cocky.

“I'm just a rookie. I'm not going to go out there and expect too much out of myself, but I do expect a certain level of play out of myself. It's not all about sacks. There are other aspects of my game to work on. I'm not going to go and put my goals out there in public. I'll just let my play speak for itself.”
