Randy Gregory Gets Sack in Cowboys Debut

Randy Gregory was selected by the Cowboys with the 60th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft

We’ll call rookie defensive end Randy Gregory’s debut on Thursday night a success, as the second round pick out of Nebraska recorded his first sack in a Dallas Cowboys uniform, hopefully the first of many, many to come.

The sack came against Chargers backup Brad Sorensen in the third quarter, and also served to illustrate to the rookie, Gregory, that NFL sacks are hard-earned things.

“Hopefully,” Gregory said, per the Dallas Morning News.  “If I was a betting man, I would say, ‘Yeah.’ But obviously there is a process with that and I’m going to enjoy that process and I am going to work hard and they’re hard-earned. They don’t come easy. You saw that today going up against even the second team and third team. They don’t come easy.”

Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli had some light praise for the rookie, but made clear that he believes Gregory left a sack or two on the field on Thursday night.

"I felt he had some good solid rushes tonight and played pretty hard,” Marinelli said. “He’s got to get better. He left a few out there, too.”
