Almost a decade after the Dallas Cowboys lost undrafted free agent prize Matt Moore to the Carolina Panthers, foiling their plans to keep the quarterback in the fold as a member of the practice squad, Moore is back at Valley Ranch.
Having spent the past five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Moore will meet with the Cowboys (presumably) about their need at the backup quarterback position.
If you feel like you haven’t heard much out of Moore lately, you haven’t. As Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas points out, Moore has only attempted 30 passes in the past four seasons, and he hasn’t started a game since 2011. That season saw him start 12 games for the Dolphins, and post 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
The next year, in 2012, the Dolphins would draft Ryan Tannehill, spelling the end of Moore’s time as the starter in Miami.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, are in need of another option behind Tony Romo, and those are disappearing fast, with Colt McCoy, Chase Daniel, Drew Stanton, and even Matt Cassel already off the market.
