Hit/Fight of the night: Dustin Brown's humbling night vs. Dallas

The body check that sends an opponent over the boards and into a foreign bench is one of our favorite hockey indignations, along with the shorthanded three-on-one breakaway and losing to the Islanders. Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown had a hit on Stephane Robidas of the Dallas Stars last night that sent the defenseman into the Kings' bench and the Staples Center into hysterics.

Seriously, the crowd was buzzing for the next five minutes, like a "Springer" audience that just witnessed someone's wig coming off in a tussle. You can't really see it in the video clip all that well, but the Kings' bench was openly laughing at the hit, too.

What Brown did later in the game wasn't so funny: A hit from behind on an off-balance Mike Ribeiro that earned the Kings forward a boarding penalty and a game misconduct, along with a thorough reeducation by Dallas captain Brenden Morrow.

The video of the hit, and the fight:

Of course, Ribeiro would return to score a rather remarkable one-handed deke goal in the shootout (video). If only the Kings didn't end up winning the game, 3-2, and if only the shootout wasn't a crime against the Hockey Gods, you might be seeing that highlight here. As it stands, we imagine these clips will suffice. Heck of a job, Brownie.
