A couple weeks ago I wrote that the Rangers were – appropriately so – not giving up on Jurickson Profar.
Apparently, other teams aren’t either. According to CBS’ Jon Heyman, the former top prospect is continuing to draw interest from several teams looking to boost their infields.
Profar, of course, boosted his value with an impressive showing the Arizona Fall League that landed him on that session’s All-Star team. The likelihood of Profar being deal is likely low, however, as teams will see Elvis Andrus and Rougned Odor in the Rangers’ infield and see him as excess depth.
Profar, who played DH in the Fall, has dealt with shoulder problems that have kept him off the field the last two seasons. He’ll likely start the season at AAA, with Odor grabbing the 2nd base job in his absence last season.
The Rangers should obviously keep Profar at this point unless a team parts with a solid starting pitcher in a trade. For now he’s a valuable insurance policy with All-Star potential.
In other words, it’s still not time to give up on Profar. Interest or not.
