Potential Targets: Robinson Cano

Target: Robinson Cano, 2B

2013 stats: 160 games, .314 batting average, .383 on-base percentage, .516 slugging percentage, 41 doubles, 27 home runs, 107 RBIs

Now, the chances of this move happening are slim, but the Rangers have been said by many to be an under-the-radar sleeping giant in Cano's market, even after acquiring Prince Fielder on Wednesday to seemingly help open the second base job for Jurickson Profar.

But, what if the Rangers still want to trade Profar for another big target — David Price or even Giancarlo Stanton? Or what if the Rangers want to deal Elvis Andrus for either of those players. That would slide Profar over to shortstop and put Cano in as your second baseman.

Cano hasn't hit under .300 since 2008 with the Yankees, and has no fewer than 25 home runs in a season since then. As soon as the season ended, Cano came out and said he would be seeking a 10-year deal for $300 million, which is absurd for a 31-year-old. There's no way Cano will get that much money, but he'll get a lot. The Rangers haven't been known to be a team that will pay free agents big, ridiculous money. But keep your eyes and ears open, because the Rangers are rumored to be in on Cano.
