In an ongoing thread of posts, we'll discuss potential free agent targets for the Dallas Cowboys coming off a 4-12 season, thanks in large part to several key injuries.
Target: Matt Forte, RB
2015 stats: 218 carries, 898 yards, 4 TDs; 44 catches, 389 yards, 3 TDs
Forte has long been seen as perhaps the best all-around running back in the game as a virtual lock for 1,000 yards on the ground (when he's healthy for a full season) and around 400 yards or so receiving. In fact, in 2014 when he played 16 games, Forte had 130 catches for 808 yards on top of 1,000-plus rushing yards.
He is 30 years old and has quite a bit of wear on his tires, but the Bears made it known last week they will not be re-signing him. Is he my favorite free agent back out there? No, that'd be Lamar Miller followed by Chris Ivory, but other than those two younger, less used guys, Forte would be the top choice out there.
