Potential Target: Colby Lewis

In an ongoing series, we'll take a look at possible free-agent and trade targets for the Texas Rangers this winter.

Target: Colby Lewis, RHP

2015 stats: 17-9 record, 4.66 ERA, 2 complete games, 1 shutout, 204 2/3 innings pitched

There aren't many players who have endeared themselves to Rangers fans more than Lewis, who has come back from multiple injuries and surgeries, including an unprecedented hip resurfacing procedure. Lewis is an innings-eater, and actually compiled a career-high innings total in 2015 while also leading the Rangers with 17 wins.

He faded down the stretch a bit, but he was the team's No. 2 starter, in truth, for much of the season. If he's re-signed for 2016, it won't be as a No. 2 starter. It'd be more as a No. 5 starter, and Lewis as a No. 5 starter would be fantastic.

The Rangers got Lewis on a team-friendly one-year deal in 2015, but after his performance this past year, it's hard to imagine he won't get some longer-term offers in free agency from some bad teams. He's expressed interest in pitching in Texas for the remainder of his career, now it just depends on whether he wants that or financial security more.
