We’d imagine when the team whose defense you coordinate wins a Super Bowl, it’s a great feeling regardless of whether you’ve been with the team for a year or a decade.

For the Broncos’ Wade Phillips, it was a year. He came over in the offseason, and was actually the team’s second choice as defensive coordinator. But when he got the job, he hit the ground running with a loaded defensive group that included DeMarcus Ware, his old pupil and friend from Dallas who had come to Denver the offseason before.

When Phillips reunited with Ware, it didn’t take long for the coach to come to the conclusion that the Cowboys’ all-time sacks leader still had plenty in the tank.

He's still got it,” Phillips told 105.3-FM The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “He was leading our team in sacks the first part of the season. Then he got hurt, then he had some back problems, then he didn't really come back to his early self until the last couple of games. He was tremendous in the last two games. He's still got that tremendous talent. He knows how to attack each guy that he plays against. He's got that experience.

“I don't think he's lost very much. He could have easily had a really big sack season this year except for injuries.”
