Peguero Traded to Red Sox

Carlos Peguero was designated for assignment earlier this month, passed through waivers and was available for the Rangers to trade or send back to the minor leagues.

On Wednesday, Peguero was dealt to the Boston Red Sox, who happen to be visiting Arlington for a four-game series beginning Thursday night, in exchange for cash.

Peguero hit just .186 (13-for-70) with 10 runs, four doubles, four home runs and nine RBIs for the Rangers before being DFAed on May 20. He played all three outfield positions this season, with the majority of his appearances coming in left field.

Peguero had one hot stretch with the Rangers — a six-game stretch from May 5-10 — when he hit .333 and had all four of his home runs, but other than that he didn't really do anything but strikeout, as he currently sits at 36 strikeouts in 70 at-bats.

Peguero has now failed to live up to his once lofty prospect status with Seattle, Kansas City and Texas, and now the Red Sox hope they're catching lightning in a bottle. Chances are, they aren't, but you never know until you try.
