Orioles Still Interested in Gallardo?

The Texas Rangers are sitting tight and waiting for the dominoes to fall involving their former starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo.

Gallardo had a solid year in 2015 and was an unsung hero for the Rangers after he helped hold the Rangers' staff together with several key injuries, but he rejected the Rangers' qualifying offer to seek a long-term deal in free agency and so far nothing has come calling.

The list of teams potentially looking for Gallardo's services and willing to give up a first-round draft pick as compensation for the qualifying offer he rejected is shrinking and seemingly down to just a couple of teams now, and one of those appears to still be the Baltimore Orioles.

Dallas Stars Fire Head Coach Jim Montgomery for ‘Unprofessional Conduct’

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com wrote last week that despite the fact the Orioles went out and signed a righty starter, they could still be very much in the running for Gallardo, especially if his market continues to dwindle.

The Orioles signing Gallardo would be the preferred result for the Rangers, as their draft pick compensation would be the 14th overall pick in the draft this summer — the highest of any of the teams said to be interested in Gallardo.
