On Opening Day, Rangers Fans Are Excited About New Stadium

It is opening day at Globe Life Park, and it is the second last one before the new stadium is ready.

“The good news is we are on schedule. So that is the most important thing we can be at this time. The excavation has gone well; just about complete,” said Rob Matwick, Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the Texas Rangers.

There is an observation deck at the top of the stadium, where fans can watch all of the progress. Tom Carr was up there, reflecting on the past.

“I remember standing in the old Arlington stadium, looking at this one as it was built,” said Carr.

He watched the new one go up with his grandson.

“I am excited to see what it looks like,” said grandson Carson McManus.

There was a big crowd on the observation deck watching the cranes. Down on the field, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred talked about the new stadium too.

“It is an ambitious project, and one that is going to be great for fans here in Arlington for decades to come. Not just the stadium, but the overall entertainment experience is really phenomenal," said Manfred.

The stadium will be done for the 2020 season. But Texas Live is slated to open late this summer. Texas Live will be adjacent to the new stadium. It is a 200,000 square foot event venue, that also has outdoor space.
