On Deck: Chicago White Sox

On Deck will be here all season to provide you with everything you need to know (and a few things you don't) about every Rangers series during the 2016 season.

The Opponent: The White Sox have the best record in the American League and the second best record in all of baseball (and Chicago) behind the Cubs. They will, however, be without their best two starting pitchers in this series.

Past 2016 Meetings: The White Sox swept away the Rangers just a couple of weeks ago in Chicago in a three-game set.

Pitching Matchups: Monday — Miguel Gonzalez (0-0, 8.44 ERA) vs. Colby Lewis (2-0, 3.32); Tuesday — Carlos Rodon (1-4, 4.36) vs. Derek Holland (3-2, 5.40); Wednesday — Mat Latos (5-0, 2.62) vs. Cole Hamels (4-0, 2.68).

What's Hot: Certified masher Jose Abreu has two homers and seven RBIs over the last six games to pace the White Sox's run production over the last week. Adam Eaton and Melky Cabrera are each hitting .333 over that same time. Closer David Robertson is a perfect 2-for-2 on save chances in the same time frame with a 0.00 ERA.

Sure, Bobby Wilson hit a grand slam against his very recent team on Sunday, but that's not all he's done since rejoining the Rangers. He's 6-for-11 with five RBIs in his three games back with the team. Rougned Odor is still hot, hitting .333 with three homers and six RBIs, and he's tearing up the leadoff spot. Colby Lewis and Cole Hamels were both great in their last start. Hamels was better than great.

What's Not: After a hot start, Latos gave up four runs in five innings his last time out on seven hits, but he still got the victory to improve to 5-0. Newly acquired Todd Frazier is batting just .083 in the last six games.

Prince Fielder's season-long slump is still on, as he's hitting just .138 in the last seven games with one RBI. He has six strikeouts and no walks in that time. Adrian Beltre is hitting just .185 over that same time.

Familiar Faces: The only notable familiar face to Rangers fan is that of White Sox manager Robin Ventura, who once did something to become famous around these parts that involves a Texas-sized fist to his noggin.
