Offseason Targets: Kelly Shoppach

Target: Kelly Shoppach, C

2013 stats: 36 games, .193 batting average, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 12 walks, .993 fielding percentage, 37 percent caught stealing

Look, the chances of this move fulfilling the Rangers' need at catcher aren't good unless the Rangers lose both A.J. Pierzynski and Geovany Soto, in which case Shoppach could be a nice fill-in for Soto as the backup catcher. Shoppach is one of those guys who's always tied to the Rangers beacuse he's a Fort Worth native and went to Brewer High School before playing collegiately at Baylor. He's a good defensive catcher, leading the league in caught-stealing percentage in 2011 with the Rays, when he caught 86 games.
