Object of Cowboys' Interest, Bilal Powell Returns to Jets

Powell has played all of his five NFL seasons with the New York Jets

One free agent running back option the Dallas Cowboys were reportedly interested in has come off the table.

Bilal Powell has opted to re-sign with the New York Jets, the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports. Powell drew interest from the Cowboys, among others, but ultimately he didn’t do much sightseeing in free agency, heading back to New York after just a couple of days.

Powell was primarily used as a third down back behind Chris Ivory in 2015. Next year, he’ll vie for carries alongside newcomers Matt Forte and Khiry Robinson.

As for the Cowboys’ search for running back help, the options are drying up fast, leading one to wonder if they won’t just look to the draft for a back to work in with 1,000-yard rusher Darren McFadden in 2016.
