NFL Films Founder Ed Sabol Dies at 98

Sabol served as President of NFL Films from 1964 to 1995

NFL Films founder Ed Sabol, who revolutionized the way Americans watch the game of football, passed away at the age of 98 on Monday at his home in Scottsdale, AZ.

Sabol served as President and Chairman of NFL Films from its inception in 1964 to 1995, when his son Steve Sabol took over, a span that saw the company win 52 Emmy Awards. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

"Through his determination and innovative spirit, Ed Sabol transformed how America watched football and all sports," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement this week, via ESPN. "Ed ignited the fire at NFL Films and was the Keeper of the Flame with a remarkable vision and dedication to telling the stories of the people who played, coached and loved the game."
