NFC East Watch: Umenyiora in Talks to Retire as a Giant

Osi Umenyiora spent ten seasons with the Giants, from 2003-2012

A longtime member of the New York Giants’ vaunted defensive front will reportedly retire soon, but he wants to do so as a Giant.

According to Adam Caplan and Dan Graziano of ESPN, Osi Umenyiora is in talks with the Giants to sign a ceremonial one-day contract that would allow him to retire with the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2003 draft out of Troy.

Umenyiora spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons after 10 years and two Super Bowl wins with the Giants. If this is indeed the end of his career, he finishes with 85 career sacks, all but 10 of which came with the Giants.

He played in 17 career games against the Cowboys and recorded seven sacks.
