Last week reports surfaced that the New York Giants would try to get Eli Manning his a contract extension in the coming weeks. Giants co-owner John Mara has now confirmed as much, saying while he doubts any deal will get done this week, the extension will very likely be done before the season opener against the Cowboys in Arlington on September 13.
βI would doubt that that would happen in that quick a time frame (this week),β Mara told the New York Post. βWe would hope to have it done at some point before the season. But if not, itβll hopefully get done at some point after that.β
Mara made clear that the team still believes the man whoβs brought them two Super Bowls has a lot left in the tank.
βWell, we still believe that he can play at a very high level and win a championship for us,β Mara said. βHe looked like a new man in the spring, his arm was very live, and heβs moving around very well. His play in 2014 was significantly better than it was in 2013, so I think the arrow is still up for him.β
