One of the Philadelphia Eagles’ top priorities going into this offseason was getting Zach Ertz a new, longterm deal, and as of Monday, they’ve already accomplished that goal.
The Eagles announced Monday that Ertz had signed a five-year deal that runs through 2021. The financial specifics haven’t been reported yet, but it’s been widely reported that it comes with around $20 million guaranteed, and will make him the fourth-highest paid tight end in football, behind only New England’s Rob Gronkowski, Seattle’s Jimmy Graham and the Jaguars’ Julius Thomas.
A second round pick out of Stanford in 2013, 2016 would have marked the final year of Ertz’s rookie deal.
“Nothing could make me happier than knowing I’m going to be a member of the Philadelphia Eagles for years to come,” Ertz wrote on his website on Monday. “I love Philly. My family loves it. I love how passionate Eagles fans are about their football, how they live and breathe it. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best, and our fans want us to be successful as much as we want to be successful.”
