Newman: Cowboys Still Have “Outside Chance” At Playoffs

With a 33-20 victory last Sunday over the New York Giants at the New Meadowlands, the Dallas Cowboys got, if nothing else, a bit of hope moving forward. The team is playing for nothing more than pride, probably, and some of them for their jobs. But the playoffs? That ship sailed a while ago, probably, really, when they were defeated by the Giants in the teams’ first match-up, a month ago.

But hope for the postseason remains, if nowhere else, in the Cowboys’ locker room at Valley Ranch. Terence Newman expressed such a hope recently in an appearance on “The Jim Rome Show,” though, with a nod to realism, admitted that while he still believed they had a chance, it was a decidedly small chance.

"I mean, there's a lot of people talking about, 'What can we do?' There's still a chance that we could possibly make the playoffs,” Newman said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It's definitely an outside chance but give us a little help and I think it's possible. So, that's one thing that we want to play for. And the fact that we didn't get off to the start that we wanted to get out to, that's something else that we want to play for. And nobody that started their career with the Cowboys has ever had a season where we were below .500.

“That's something else that we want to do. We want to win as many games as possible and right the ship. Nobody wants to start the way we did, but as the old adage goes, it doesn't matter how you start it matters how you finish."
