As speculation over whether DeMarco Murray wants to leave Philadelphia after one season with the Eagles swirls, new Eagles head coach Doug Pederson indicated Thursday that the team would love to have him back—but he hasn’t actually told him that personally, because the two haven’t spoken.
"I don't know,” Pederson said, per Josh Paunil of PhillyMag.com. “I haven't talked to him. I can't tell you one way or the other if he is or not. I'd love to have him."
Murray is coming off a highly disappointing first season with the Eagles, in which he posted 702 yards—his lowest total since 2012—on 193 carries. That’s 99 fewer carries than he saw in Dallas in 2014, when he won a rushing title and AP Offensive Player of the Year honors.
What’s more, Murray saw his role in the offense diminish as the season went along, leading to reports that he’s not only unhappy, but that he’d be open to returning to his old team.
