National Spelling Bee Champ Salutes Bryant With “X”

Never really understood Dez Bryant’s “throwing up the X” post-touchdown celebration. But like Kenny Gant’s “Shark Dance” in the ‘90s, fans embraced it.

It branched out even more on Thursday when the X took center stage at – of all places – the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Co-champion Nihar Janga channeled Bryant after his win, crossing his arms above his head to mimic Bryant’s move. Janga, a 5th-grader in Austin, is a rabid Cowboys fan.

(Two asides: Did Scripps and Howard get a divorce? And how are there co-champs in a spelling bee?)

In a very cool gesture, Bryant went to Twitter to congratulate Janga:

you just made my whole day buddy .. Congrats on winning the #spellingbee champ .. Some how some way I have to get you to a game #x

While treated to a game, perhaps Janga can give some grammar pointers to Bryant?
