Must-See Sports Moments of the Week: July 24-30

Must-see moments from this week in sports include an inter-sport alley-oop, a baseball player's odd reaction to a fan catching a foul ball and a soccer player has trouble with a soccer ball.

Friday

Soccer, Basketball Alley-Oop

Bayern Munich soccer players visited Team USA's basketball team Thursday and players from each team collaborated on an alley-oop trash can dunk. Nice work by new Dallas Maverick Harrison Barnes to kick off (pun intended) the masterpiece.

Fan Catches Foul Ball, Kiss

A fan at Thursday's Phillies-Braves game in Atlanta probably would have been happy with just catching a foul ball. Maybe Braves outfielder Chase d’Arnaud was thanking the fan for turning what would have been Strike 1 into an out?

What is going on here? Oh, just Indiana Tech golf coach Tom Kocks using the Happy Gilmore technique with a wedge to lift a shot over a brave volunteer.

Ranking all 16 teams in the 2024 NBA playoffs

This lady gets zero points for her choice of dance, but she earned the right to dance however she wanted when she caught a foul ball in her hat at Thursday's Diamondbacks-Brewers game in Milwaukee. She probably wishes she were at the Braves game, though.

Miss Putt, Punt Club

Patton Kizzire reacted how any golfer would after missing an "easy" putt during the PGA Championship Thursday.

Thursday

Best Basketball Trick Shot

Harlem Globetrotter Bull Bullard overcame a 110-foot drop at 60 miles per hour to hit the jump shot of the year at Morey's Piers at the Wildwoods boardwalk in New Jersey Wednesday.

Dirk Shouldn't Soccer

On the day that Dirk Nowitzki officially re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks, he also hosted his annual celebrity soccer game in Germany. With a bicycle kick like that, it's a good thing Dirk is sticking with basketball.

Eagles' Magic Long Snapper

Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos' magic has landed him in the Top 12 of America's Got Talent. If he keeps coming up with illusions like that, football might have to take a back seat.

Pirates Fan Catches Foul, Falls

The catch of the night in Wednesday's Mariners-Pirates game came from a fan, who paid the price. The fan then showed the crowd he was OK and got a loud ovation.

Full-Contact Rock, Paper, Scissors

Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander filmed Tigers players Ian Kinsler and Jose Iglesias playing a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors where the winner gets to take a water bottle to the head of the loser.

Who's Got it Better Than Jim Harbaugh?

Of course Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh wore khakis and cleats when he threw the first pitch before Wednesday's Cubs-White Sox game. Of course he prepared intensely for the pitch and of course he rocked it.

Wednesday

Boy, That Escalated Quickly

Players and coaches on the Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins) and Daytona Tortugas (Reds) brawled during the ninth inning of their game last Wednesday. And of course it was Camp Day at the ballpark.

Emotional Boy Meets Favorite Team

After this 4-year-old Pirates fan sat through a nearly six-hour 18-inning game last week, he probably thought his team winning was reward enough. The Pirates thought he deserved more, though, inviting him to hang out with the team Tuesday.

Adorable NFL Camp Pups

Washington cornerback Bashaud Breeland brought the basics to training camp, including a litter of English Bulldog puppies.

MLer Avoids Combacker From Nephew

Edwin Encarnacion's nephew seems to have inherited the power gene from his uncle. Fortunately Encarnacion still has his reflexes.

OBJ Schools Kid Campers

The one-handed catch Odell Beckham Jr. made against the Cowboys two seasons ago is probably the most copied football play by kids today. At a football camp Beckham hosted Tuesday, some kids got to see similar catches first hand.

Sibling Trade Proposal

Said every sibling ever.

Tuesday

Tiny Dunker

Meet Jare Sager, a 5-foot-2 youngster from Washington who doesn't let his height stop him from making some impressive dunks.

Imaginary Baseball, Real Major Leaguer

A boy stopped a man walking a dog with an Oakland A’s bandana, complimented the bandana and asked the man to play imaginary baseball. Little did the boy know that he hit an imaginary home run off real A's reliever Sean Doolittle.

The Empire State Building was struck by lightning during a storm Monday and Met's pitcher Thor — also known as Mansfield native Noah Syndergaard — let everyone know he wasn't responsible.

Syndergaard was scheduled to pitch against the Cardinals Monday, but the game was postponed by the storm. Hmm...

Umpire, Catcher Make Catches

Red Sox catcher Sandy Leon made a good catch, but umpire Jim Reynolds wasn't going to be outdone, catching Leon's mask as it was tossed aside.

Diamondbacks’ infielder Jean Segura showed off the least subtle videobomb ever during Fox Sports Arizona’s pregame report in his hometown of Milwaukee Monday.

Australia Wins Quidditch World Cup

The Australia Dropbears defeated America to win the 2016 International Quidditch Association — which is a real thing, apparently — World Cup Sunday. What else is there to say?

Monday

Blame It On the Jelly

After committing possibly the worst own goal in sports history, Minnesota United FC and goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock show they're good sports with a PSA video: #BlameItOnTheJelly. Slow clap.

A Kiss Before Winning

Twins third baseman Miguel Sano fielded a grounder and then kissed the ball fore throwing to first base for the final out in Saturday's 11-9 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Like a Kid In a Candy Store

Kyle Bush won the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis Sunday, but the real star was Busch's young son, Brexton. The boy, who looks to be about 18 months old, couldn't resist the Skittles shot onto the track by Busch's sponsor after the victory.

Premature Walk Fools Baserunner

It's always cringe-worthy when a batter thinks he's been walked and is called back to the plate. The Orioles' Chris Davis committed this offense Sunday and fooled teammate Manny Machado, was picked off at first base by the Indians catcher.

Don't Dribble, DeAndre

DeAndre Jordan forgot his role when he caught an airball and tried to dribble during Team USA's exhibition with China Sunday. See what you missed out on, Mavs fans?
