Move Over Triplets, There's a More Successful Trio of Winners Down in San Antonio

Sorry Cowboys fans, but the truth hurts.

Among the legendary trios in Texas lore are Davy Crockett-Sam Houston-Jim Bowie and Troy Aikman-Emmitt Smith-Michael Irvin. But as of Sunday night the most decorated, accomplished threesome resides in San Antonio in the form of Tim Duncan-Manu Ginobli-Tony Parker.

One group defended The Alamo. The other won three Super Bowls in four years. But the latter: How about five championships?

The Cowboys may still be America’s Team, but they are no longer Texas’ Team.

With their fifth championship there’s no denying that the most successful team in the state is now the NBA’s Spurs and not the NFL’s Cowboys.

Sorry, Jerry Jones, but San Antonio owner Peter Holt is the biggest hat (with plenty of cattle) in Texas, and Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich has now coached his team to as many championships as Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer – combined.

The Cowboys still own the popularity, but the Spurs now dominate the success.
