Mitch Moreland had one of those nights that lots of Rangers seem to be having nowadays.
After some struggles at the plate, he put together a big night at the plate and played a huge role in the Rangers' comeback win on Monday night, vaulting them to within a half-game of the AL West lead with a chance to take over first on Tuesday night.
Moreland had a multi-hit game, and made both of his hits go for extra bases, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning that put the Rangers in front of first-place Houston. The lead didn't last long, but it energized the crowd at Globe Life Park and seemed to put a good vibe in the park, as well as the Rangers' dugout.
Moreland hadn't been playing much against left-handed pitchers as Jeff Banister favored Mike Napoli against southpaws at first base, but in the last two games against lefties, Banister has put Napoli in left field and left Moreland in to face the lefties, and he's seeing results.
The game Monday brought Moreland's season average to .285 and gave him 20 home runs — three shy of tying his career high — to go with a career-high 73 RBIs.
