Mo Claiborne's Goal: “I'm Trying to Make This Team”

Claiborne missed the final 12 games and the playoffs last year after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon

Going into the fourth training camp of his short NFL career, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne is keeping his goals simple.

Claiborne’s first three years after being drafted by the Cowboys out of LSU with the sixth overall pick in 2012 were largely disappointing. He has three interceptions, one for each year he’s been in the league, and has missed 19 games in that span, including 12 last year after suffering a torn patellar tendon in his left knee.

After working his way back, Jerry Jones has said he believes Claiborne is in position to surprise a lot of people in 2015. But, for now, Claiborne is focused on simpler, more immediate goals.

I’m trying to make the team,” Claiborne said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “That’s how I look at this whole thing. I’m trying to make this team. That I can play football, period, point blank.”

It’s early in camp, but so far, Claiborne is feeling good in his return.

“I feel great,” Claiborne said. “I feel like I’m where I need to be right now. Nothing but getting better from here. I’m continuing to work how I’m working. I’ll let God take care of the rest. Being through, going through it once, you know how to handle it. In this situation, it’s a first time for me to miss a whole lot. I just knew that work would take care of everything and leave the rest up to God.”
