Missed Opportunities Doom Stars in OT Loss to Red Wings

The Stars are now 1-4-2 in their last seven games

The Dallas Stars scored to tie it just a minute and a half before the end of regulation to send it to overtime, but ultimately the team was doomed by missed opportunities in their overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.

The Stars put more shots on goal than the Red Wings at 41-33, but they couldn’t find much luck on a night they needed it against Jimmy Howard, the veteran net minder who came into the game struggling but finished with 39 saves.

"I thought we played a hell of a game," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said, per Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. "We might have played our best game in a long time. We just missed too many great opportunities. I really can't find a guy I didn't like in the game. We should have scored four or five, but right now we don't have an ounce of puck luck going on.

“We can't get anything to redirect and we've hit crossbars and posts. Jamie [Benn] and Tyler [Seguin] dominated the game and couldn't get one in the back of the net.”

Because of that, the Stars are now 1-4-2 in their last seven games. But on the bright side, they’ll have a chance to get that bitter taste out of their mouth quickly, as they face the Predators in Nashville on Tuesday.
