Melvin Gordon: It'd be “Sweet” to Run Behind Cowboys O-Line

According to a recent report by Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon will never make it to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 27 in the upcoming NFL Draft. This is because the Baltimore Ravens hold the 26th pick, and have every intention of taking the reigning Doak Walker Award winner if he’s there.

But if the report turns out to be wrong, or something changes, Gordon would be more than happy for the chance to run behind the Cowboys’ vaunted young offensive line. And why wouldn’t he? The group is young, strong and talented--and for what it’s worth, Gordon is already very familiar with center Travis Frederick, a teammate of his at Wisconsin for two seasons.  

“It would be sweet to run behind that line,” Gordon said, per Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That line is strong and smart. I saw Travis on my visit. It would be great. But I’m just excited to see where my next family is going to be.”

The Cowboys hosted Gordon for a pre-draft visit at Valley Ranch last week, and apparently left the Dallas staff impressed.

“I was there for two days,” Gordon said. “I met the coaches. I met with Jerry Jones. They said they were high on taking a running back. They said they liked that I was a playmaker.”
