A week away from the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft ESPN Draft expert Todd McShay has published his final mock of the year, and in it he has the Dallas Cowboys taking running back Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick.
Elliott has become a much talked about name in relation to the Cowboys as the draft has drawn closer, while earlier in mock season it was pretty much universally expected that Dallas would go with a quarterback or a pass rusher in the first round.
Granted, the notion the Cowboys could select a running back at No. 4 flies in the face of how the position has been devalued in recent years, but many experts believe if any runner is special enough to justify such a high pick in this year’s draft—and he would be the earliest running back taken since Trent Richardson went No. 3 overall to the Browns in 2012—it’s Elliott.
"I’ve heard three names all along with Dallas: Elliott, Ramsey and Joey Bosa. It’d be tough for the Cowboys to pass on Bosa, my No. 1 overall player, but Elliott is a perfect fit to play behind Dallas’ elite offensive line,” McShay wrote of Elliott, via the Dallas Morning News. “He has the skill set to be an every-down RB from day one.”
