When this season began, the general consensus about Cowboys running back Darren McFadden was that he'd serve as a change-of-pace back for Joseph Randle, who appeared to be the Cowboys' No. 1 back heading into the season.
That didn't last terribly long.
Randle faced legal troubles and a general lack of production and was released from the roster to clear the way for McFadden to get his shot. And the veteran didn't disappoint.
Despite not being the featured back until late October, McFadden had 92 yards on Sunday, finishing the year with 1,089 yards on the ground. That number was good enough to put him fourth in all of football behind Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin and Todd Gurley.
His 1,000-yard season — the second of his NFL career — earned him a $300,000 bonus. So despite the season being a huge disappointment, it ended in pretty good fashion for McFadden, personally.
