One of the many reasons the Dallas Cowboys' defense so far exceeded expectations this year was the play of Rolando McClain after the Cowboys brought him out of an early retirement and took a chance on a guy who had previously been a big headcase only to see him be a monster for the Cowboys' defense.
On Sunday, McClain was a big question mark to play after he suffered a concussion in last Sunday's win over Detroit — a game he played at far from 100 percent health in the first place. On Sunday, McClain lasted exactly 10 plays before taking another shot to the head and suffering another concussion. He missed the remainder of the game, which happened to be the last game of the Cowboys' season.
You would've had to think McClain would've definitely been out for the NFC Championship Game had the Cowboys won, and quite possibly could've been a question mark for the Super Bowl had they gone to Seattle and won.
In fact, McClain's future has to be a bit in doubt now. He's dealt with this issue before and has now suffered bad hits in two consecutive weeks. It's common knowledge the worst concussions are often those follow-up ones when a player comes back sooner than he should have and takes another hit.
Even if he plays again, it's not a guarantee it'll be in Dallas, as McClain is a free agent after signing the one-year deal prior to this year as a low-risk flier for the Cowboys that happened to work out very well.
