Martin Latest Ranger to Go Down

Before the Texas Rangers had a thrilling come-from-behind win over the hottest team in baseball on Monday night, they lost starting center fielder Leonys Martin when he landed awkwardly while diving for a ball in center, eventually forcing him to leave the game and be replaced by Delino DeShields Jr.

There was some concern that Martin could've broken his wrist, but X-rays were negative and it was deemed a wrist sprain, which now has Martin considered day-to-day.

Martin had been bumped from the leadoff spot for Monday's game in favor of the suddenly scorching Shin-Soo Choo, and he was hitting eighth in the lineup despite being one of the club's hotter hitters in recent weeks.

The last thing the Rangers need right now is for another regular to go down for an extended period of time.

And say what you want about Martin and his streakiness, but he's a much better option for an everyday player than DeShields will probably ever be.
