Magadan Being Pursued by NY Teams

Several people have called for the job — wrongly so — of Texas Rangers hitting coach Dave Magadan throughout this disaster of a season that came to a merciful end last month.

They might get their wish now, but not in the way that was originally thought.

Magadan is reportedly being courted by both the New York Yankees and New York Mets, who have both parted ways with their hitting coach recently.

"I have been called about that, it’s in the preliminary stages and that’s all I can say about it,’’ Magadan told The New York Post when asked about talking to the Yankees.

He also said the same thing about the open Mets job. Magadan is under contract through the 2015 season, but the Rangers' front office told all of their coaches they could seek other jobs because of the manager vacancy and the assumed announcement that the new manager will be able to assemble his own staff.

The Rangers have worked under Magadan for the past two years after his successful stint with the Boston Red Sox, and they've struggled in those two seasons at the plate, perhaps due to approach but more likely due to a lack of firepower (2013) and injuries (2014).
