Man Gets 5 Years For Killing Calf After Cowboys Defeat of Saints

A 22-year-old man from Gibson, Louisiana has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing a calf and beating it to death with a shovel last December, after his New Orleans Saints watching party was ruined by the Saints’ defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, the Times-Picayune reported Monday.

The Saints came into that game with a 13-0 record, and many experts predicting a perfect, 16-0 record for the team. But Dallas jumped ahead early and, due greatly to DeMarcus Ware’s heroics, were able to hold off a late comeback by the team for the 24-17 victory.

Afterward, David J. LeBlanc, along with two other men reportedly stole the calf from a nearby farm--LeBlanc then beat it to death with a shovel, what State Judge David Coady called “a dangerous weapon” used to kill a defenseless animal.

The judge ignored LeBlanc’s pleas for leniency on Monday, sentencing him to a substantial five-year prison term.

"The others lied the whole time," said LeBlanc. "(Prison) would ruin my life completely. I have a kid on the way. I could not do that."
