Looks Like Gurley Will Be Gone Long Before Cowboys Pick

Todd Gurley is likely a top 10 pick again after a successful medical precheck

The Dallas Cowboys would probably love to draft Georgia running back Todd Gurley in the first round of the draft on Thursday, but it doesn’t look like they’ll get a chance. In fact, it doesn’t look like they’re even close to having a chance.

According to a recent report by Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins “covet” Gurley. Miami picks at 14, and there’s a good chance he won’t even make it to them.

After the pre-draft, medical recheck of Gurley’s surgically repaired knee produced nothing but good news, it’s widely believed he’ll go in the top 10, perhaps to the Jets at sixth overall.

But even if he happens to fall out of the top 10 on Thursday, it sure doesn’t sound like he’ll make it past 14--or 13 picks before the Cowboys go on the clock.

“He’s a talent. He’s definitely a player that his ability stands out and shines,” said Dolphins’ assistant general manager Eric Stokes. “He’s an exciting guy to watch. We’ve enjoyed working through that process with him and seeing him. From there, we’ll see where things shake out.”
