One of the biggest offseason questions facing the Dallas Cowboys after their 13-5 season, and one that will need to be answered sooner rather than later, is whether they bring back running back DeMarco Murray on the heels of his record-setting season.
Emotion and sentiment says it's a no-brainer, but logic might say otherwise.
So what if the Cowboys let Murray walk after the greatest season in franchise history for a running back? Where could the Cowboys go as an alternative? There's talk of the Cowboys looking to the draft to replace Murray, which would likely require a first-round pick (No. 27) and definitely no later than their second-round selection.
A guy that could possibly be there when the Cowboys come up in the early rounds is South Carolina running back Mike Davis.
At 5-9, 220 pounds, Davis is a bowling ball back. While he isn't as flashy as some of the first-round talent such as Melvin Gordon, he has something that the Cowboys could covet in the early to mid rounds while still being able to go defense early in the draft — durability and workhorse potential.
If the Cowboys are going to move on from Murray, they need someone who can step into his shoes of carrying the ball 25-30 times a game because the idea wouldn't be to platoon a supposed "replacement" for Murray with Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar. If the Cowboys are going to replace Murray, they need to replace him. Davis could do that, and not cost the Cowboys a fortune.
